Victoria's reflection on her internship at SIHMA

SIHMA’s team would like to thank the excellent job and contribution of our Intern Victoria, who finished her in person experience at the Cape Town Office last December. She really helped in many communication and research projects, dedicating her time in sharing knowledge and passion for human rights and migration. We are grateful for her presence and we wish she can pursuit her goals and studies in the humanitarian field. 

Here is her reflection at the end of her internship: 

My name is Victoria Jensen, and I am from Oslo, Norway. I have a degree in Development Studies from the University of Oslo, and my objective is to obtain a career within the field of humanitarian and human rights. I had the pleasure of joining SIHMA as a research and communications intern for 6 months, from June to December 2021. The rights and dignity of migrants, asylum seekers and refugees are of great importance working within the humanitarian field, and I am very grateful for the opportunity I got to expand my knowledge and understanding of the patterns of migration. 

During my time at the SIHMA office in Cape Town, I was involved in a wide range of tasks and projects. I got to publish several research articles, took part in the making of SIHMA’s Annual Report 2020 and worked on SIHMA’s contribution to the Vatican Pastoral Report 2020. I joined several webinars related to migration and worked on a project to write migration country profiles for the African continent. I was also given the opportunity to oversee communications for a period, which involved social media and publishing on our website, and I initiated adding Instagram as another social media platform. Additionally, I had to stay up to date on all news related to migration worldwide and wrote monthly press reviews.

Overall, my internship has been a great learning experience. The knowledge I gained during these six months was beyond my expectation. Fr Filippo, James, Muluh and Debby: Thank you for putting your trust in me with this work and thank you for being an amazing team.
