Relocation of Refugee Reception Offices: Departmental briefing
The Department of Home Affairs (DHA) briefed the Portfolio Committee on amendments to the Refugee Act and on the establishment of a refugee reception centre in Lebombo, Mpumalanga. With regard to the Lebombo office, the Department was still awaiting confirmation that its application to re-zone an area in Lebombo had been approved. Thereafter, planning and construction of the structure would get underway.

2013 Annual Asylum Statistics – South Africa
A total of 70,010 new arrivals were registered as asylum seekers between January and December 2013. An equal number of Temporary Permits was issued to them in terms of section 22 of the Refugees Act No 130 of 1998.
