Africans on the Move – Ghana Workshop

On November 21st a dissemination workshop was held at The Institute for Educational Research and Innovation Studies (IERIS), University of Education Winneba (UEW) Ghana. The workshop was organized by the Scalabrini Institute for Human Mobility in Ghana (SIHMA) and the Centre for African Studies of the UEW. The purpose was to disseminate the four country study and book launching of Africans on the Move: human mobility in Ghana, Nigeria, Angola and South Africa, edited by Fabio Baggio and published by SIHMA.
The seminar drew participants from various academic institutions and departments of the UEW. Amongst the speakers were Dr. Delali Badasu, Director of the Centre for Migration Studies (University of Ghana, Legon), Dr. Edmond Akwasi Agyeman (University of Education, Winneba) and Dr. Mary Boatemaa Setrana (University of Ghana, Legon). The function was chaired by the Dean of Social Science Education of the UEW and the welcome address was given by Prof. R. Kolawole (IERIS). In attendance was the Pro-Vice Chancellor of the UEW Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni. The presentations stimulated a very fruitful debate around the issue of human mobility in Ghana. In the vote of thanks the Head of Department of the Centre for African Studies announced the Centre’s readiness to sign a memorandum of understanding with SIHMA to foster further collaboration between the institutions.
