EU-Africa Relations on Migration: What future?*
According to the ‘Kagame Report’ report, in 2016, donors contributed 60 per cent of the US$417 million budget of the African Union and funded 97 per cent of its programmes. This figures indicates that in order for the EU-AU partnership to be more equal and ‘honest’, the AU should be able to increase its own financial resources. Furthermore, to ensure that policy options are deeply grounded in African realities and focus on long-term solutions, African States need to clearly spell out their own priorities and agenda on migration.
